LIGHTEST FIVE-DOOR HATCHBACK IN THE COMPACT SEGMENT

Hyundai Elantra GT's widespread use of high-strength steel provides a 37 percent increase in body stiffness at a lower body weight when compared to the outgoing Elantra Touring model. High-strength steel allows the suspension to work optimally. At 2,784 pounds, the automatic transmission Elantra GT is lighter than its competitors, while offering more interior room than Focus, Mazda3, Golf and Matrix. Elantra GT is the lightest five-door hatchback in the compact segment. It is 175 pounds lighter than Focus, 151 pounds lighter than Mazda3 and 222 pounds lighter than Golf. This weight-efficient unibody architecture allows for Elantra to achieve an estimated 39 mpg EPA highway rating, without the need for a special eco model. Hyundai Elantra GT's best-in-class fuel efficiency is driven by the Blue Drive strategy. A key to Elantra GT's extensive use of high-strength steel is an $8 billion dollar investment Hyundai made to become the only global automaker with its own fully integrated steel plant. Hyundai has 400 metallurgists focused on the task of developing optimized steel recipes for every part and panel in new vehicle architectures.

MODERN POWERTRAIN

Under the hood, Hyundai Elantra GT is powered by a 1.8-liter Nu four-cylinder engine with 148 horsepower and 131 lb-ft of torque (145 horsepower and 130 lb-ft of torque for Elantra PZEV). Thanks to advanced clean engine technology, most Elantra GTs sold in California, Oregon and several Northeast states are certified as Partial Zero Emission Vehicles (PZEV) by the EPA. The PZEV Elantra GT is as clean as many hybrid electric vehicles, helping Hyundai meet its environmental commitments. Elantra is also available as an Ultra Low Emission Vehicle (ULEV). Additionally, Hyundai Elantra GT has an ActiveECO System that modifies engine and transmission control to smooth out throttle response and increase real-world fuel economy by up to seven percent.

The Nu engine features an aluminum cylinder head, crank and block with a cast iron cylinder liner. The 1.8-liter Nu also offers Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (D-CVVT) camshafts and hydraulic engine mounts for optimum power, efficiency and refinement. Using CVVT on both camshafts has several advantages when compared with using it just on the intake camshaft. With D-CVVT, there is a two percent improvement in performance (increased volumetric efficiency), two percent improvement in fuel economy (reduced pumping loss) and a 30 percent reduction in hydrocarbon emissions. In the valvetrain, roller swing arms and hydraulic lash adjusters reduce valve driven friction to improve fuel economy by one percent, compared with direct valve driving. The Nu engine also features a maintenance-free silent timing chain system to enhance durability and improve Noise Vibration and Harshness (NVH).

The application of a composite resin two-stage Variable Intake System (VIS) versus aluminum, enables switching between long and short intake manifolds, resulting in a four percent improvement in performance, a 15 percent reduction in cost and a 30 percent reduction in weight.

Another tool Hyundai engineers have incorporated into Elantra GT is an electronic throttle control. The electronic throttle control replaces the conventional cable and mechanical linkage with fast responding electronics. This system accurately controls air intake and engine torque, improving drivability, response and fuel economy.

The Nu four-cylinder engine also has an offset crankshaft design that reduces friction between the piston and cylinder wall for a one percent improvement in fuel economy.

SIX-SPEED TRANSMISSIONS

The 2013 Elantra GT can be equipped with a six-speed manual (M6CF3-1) or automatic (A6GF1) transaxle with SHIFTRONIC� manual control. Hyundai Elantra GT's six-speed manual transmission provides short, crisp shifts and further optimizes engine performance. These crisp shifts are courtesy of triple-cone synchronizers for first and second gears, double-cone for third gear and single-cone for fourth, fifth and sixth gears.

INTERIOR SPACE AND PRACTICALITY

Maximizing interior volume and delighting customers with various seating layouts are hallmarks of Hyundai engineering and translate into more cabin room, cargo space and versatility. The Elantra GT features seating layouts that can comfortably seat five people or accommodate four passengers, plus long items like golf clubs or snowboards. Fold down two seats, to seat three people and hold larger packages or fold all of the back seats to get CUV-sized cargo space. These options allow customers to discover that Elantra GT has more interior volume than Matrix, Mazda3, Ford Focus and VW Golf and even more cargo capacity than the Nissan Juke crossover, thanks to fold-flat rear seats and rear seat cushions than can flipped upward.

ELANTRA GT ARCHITECTURE

Elantra GT is fitted with a MacPherson strut front suspension, with coil springs and gas shock absorbers. The rear suspension is comprised of a light weight coupled torsion beam for enhanced steering stability and monotube shock absorbers. A 22 mm diameter front stabilizer bar helps reduce body roll when cornering. Hyundai Elantra GT is tuned for added feel, responsiveness and control, while the Elantra sedan is tuned for comfort. Modifications to the GT include higher rear spring rates, a stiffer twist beam and Sachs dampers for improved body motion control. These changes create driving dynamics which are sporty and comfortable. In addition, two suspension packages were developed to optimize tuning for the two different tire sizes. The Elantra GT's Style package offers a sportier suspension calibration that is optimized for its lower-profile P215/45R17 tire.

Behind the wheel, drivers benefit from Hyundai's all-new Driver Selectable Steering Mode. With three operating modes to select - Comfort, Normal and Sport - this innovative system allows drivers to adapt Hyundai Elantra GT steering characteristics to varying driving preferences and road conditions any time they choose. Comfort level offers the greatest ease of steering and is ideal for city and parking environments. Sport is optimized for higher-speed highways or winding roads, while Normal is ideal for a mix of driving conditions. The Driver Selectable Steering Mode not only adjusts power assistance levels in each mode, but also on-center build-up feel and steering build-up curves throughout the steering range, for a very natural, progressive feel. Steering damping characteristics, active return gain, and high frequency friction levels have also been optimized for Elantra GT in this system. CABIN REFINEMENT

Cabin refinements on the all-new Elantra GT are inspired by the high standards of the entire Hyundai lineup. Located in the center console, the available navigation system is displayed via a seven-inch touch-screen and incorporates the rearview camera screen. Elantra GT's rearview camera is like no other. This mechanized camera is hidden behind the Hyundai flying H badge on the rear hatch and only appears when needed.

Dual-zone climate controls ensure a comfortable environment for all occupants during long journeys, and the addition of a panoramic sunroof provides increased natural light within the cabin. AGGRESSIVE DESIGN CUES MATCH ENHANCED DYNAMIC PERFORMANCE

The refreshed Hyundai Genesis Coupe strikes a more menacing demeanor, with an aggressively redesigned front fascia, grille, headlights, LED daytime running lights, fog lights and hood with heat extractor cues. The side view reveals new, aggressive 18- and 19-inch alloy wheel designs with deeper dimensional sculpting. Finally, the rear taillights provide a visual spark via premium LED illumination and new contours. Of course, the traditional rear-drive sport coupe proportions remain, with a long wheelbase and short front and rear overhangs producing a classic wedge-like profile. Genesis Coupe's bodyside character line is an innovative "Z"-shaped design that integrates seamlessly with a unique, drop-beltline rear window graphic.

Genesis Coupe's arching roofline and tapering greenhouse highlight the exterior profile and emphasize the car's broad shoulders and wide stance. To complete the aggressive sports car look, the depth between the fenders and the greenhouse has been maximized.

POWERTRAIN ENHANCEMENTS

Both Hyundai Genesis Coupe engines receive significant technology upgrades, backing up its new design statement with impressive performance gains. The 3.8-liter Lambda DOHC V6 engine adds sophisticated direct-injection technology, adding 42 horsepower (a generous 14 percent increase) and 29 lb.-ft of torque (an eleven percent increase). Peak horsepower rises to 348 at 6,400 RPM, with peak torque increasing to 295 lb.-ft. at 5,300 RPM on premium fuel. In addition, lambda-engine anti-knock technology gives this V6 the versatility to run on regular fuel. This new direct-injected engine will easily propel the Genesis Coupe from zero to 60 mph in the lower five-second range on its way to an impressive 149 mph electronically-limited top speed. The Lambda V6 intake system also now employs an intake sound induction pipe into the cabin to ensure this engine's aural character matches its visceral appeal.

To further broaden the power band, the 3.8-liter engine uses Dual Continuously Variable Valve Timing (Dual CVVT) and a Variable Intake System (VIS) that helps cylinders breathe most efficiently at both low and high RPM. The combination of high-pressure, precisely-metered direct injection with efficient cylinder breathing results in outstanding throttle response and off-the-line acceleration coupled with remarkable fuel efficiency. The V6 engine uses an alloy block and cylinder heads for lighter weight and thermal efficiency and features durable, quiet timing chains with no scheduled maintenance.

All these technologies serve to give Hyundai Genesis Coupe 3.8 an impressive power-to-weight ratio of only 10.0:1; significantly lower than the more expensive Infiniti G37 and BMW 335i.

Not to be outdone by its bigger brother, the turbocharged, intercooled 2.0-liter DOHC inline four-cylinder substitutes a new twin-scroll design for its turbocharger in addition to a larger intercooler with enhanced thermal efficiency. The twin-scroll design is more efficient at recovering exhaust energy and produces cooler cylinder temperatures than the former single-scroll design. In addition, the twin-scroll is more precise, with improved combustion efficiency, reduced turbo lag, leaner air/fuel ratios and more evenly distributed pressure in the exhaust ports, resulting in simultaneous power, efficiency and emissions improvements. Also, a 53 percent larger intercooler further reduces intake temperatures, providing denser, cooler air from which to develop even more power.

This turbocharged engine also benefits from Dual CVVT on both intake and exhaust camshafts. The 2.0-liter turbo now generates 274 horsepower (a massive 30 percent increase) and 275 lb.-ft. of torque (an impressive 23 percent increase) on premium fuel. And, unlike many competitive turbo engines, this turbo's anti-knock sensors automatically adjust ignition timing and engine mapping to run perfectly on regular fuel, yielding 260 horsepower at 6,000 RPM and 260 lb.-ft. of torque at 2,000 RPM. The turbo engine also features a cast-aluminum cylinder block and cylinder head. All these improvements give the Genesis Coupe 2.0T a power-to-weight ratio of 12.3, superior to the upcoming Scion FR-S sports coupe and the Honda Civic Si.

Both V6 and 4-cylinder engines also feature deeper, baritone-sounding dual cat-back exhausts to complement more efficient breathing on the intake side. To ensure that all this new power is evenly distributed to the pavement, Hyundai Genesis Coupe also offers an available Torsen� limited-slip differential on R-Spec and Track models.

UPSCALE INTERIOR REFINEMENT

The 2013 Genesis Coupe interior has been enhanced with distinctive, upscale features and design cues. The instrument panel crash pad features a stitched-seam appearance for a distinctly upscale look, and the parking brake lever is leather-wrapped on leather-equipped models. The instrument cluster now features an electroluminescent gauge cluster for premium ambience and superior readability. A new driver-side rear seat walk-in assist function has been added for more convenient rear seat access from the driver's side. Convenient seatbelt assist guides make it easier for front passengers to buckle up.

In addition, driver seat power lumbar support is now available and front seatback pockets are standard on all Genesis Coupes. A center stack multi-gauge cluster with instantaneous mpg, torque level (3.8 models) or turbocharger boost pressure (2.0T models), and oil temperature is standard on all trims. A center fascia tray with cover has been added for enhanced storage, and interior surfaces now have a softer touch with lower sheen for a more up-market feel. Sport front seats with deep side bolsters offer superb lateral support for enthusiastic driving in all trim configurations.

Among other premium features are an available Infinity� premium audio system and two-stage front seat heaters. Hyundai Genesis Coupe also offers the convenience of a Proximity Key and push-button start.

INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGIES

Genesis Coupe offers Xenon high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights, for brighter illumination intensity, more daylight-like lighting character and reduced power consumption. In addition, the visual cut lines of these HID headlights are razor sharp, providing maximum nighttime visibility to the driver without the risk of blinding oncoming traffic.

Music lovers will welcome the Genesis Coupe's standard auxiliary input jacks (3.5 mm mini-jack and USB input) to accommodate and charge personal audio devices such as an iPod�. When an iPod or flash drive is connected through the USB port in the center storage compartment, not only does it play music through the vehicle's audio system, but it also charges the iPod and allows the driver to access tracks with the steering wheel audio controls. I guarantee with pride that HB20 will change the perception of Brazilian customers in the small car segment," Chang Kyun Han, President of HMB, said at the launching event, which was held at Hotel Transamerica Ilha de Comandatuba in the eastern Brazilian state of Bahia yesterday.

Offering modernity and equipped with the latest technologies to differentiate itself from the competition, all nine versions of the Hyundai HB20 will have a comprehensive package of items offered as standard from entry levels: Hydraulic power steering, dual front airbags, air-conditioning, a spoiler with a built-in brake lights, a rear windshield wiper and storage compartments for all passengers, to name a few. The name "HB" stands for Hyundai Brasil, while the number "20" is the company's characterization for vehicles in this segment, a category that includes models assembled on small or compact vehicle platforms.

Hyundai dedicated approximately five years to develop the new model, which is part of the company's larger regionalization strategy. Dozens of Brazilian and Korean engineers were involved in the project during the conception phase to develop an ideal car that could handle Brazil's typical road conditions, as well as satisfy consumers' emotional needs. Mainly, Hyundai placed great importance on design, taking into account Brazilian consumers' sensitivity to stylish and fuel-efficient cars. HB20, Hyundai's first flex-fuel car, also features advanced anti-theft functions for maximum security.

Design

The Hyundai HB20 is a compact and economical model that is poised to become a benchmark in style due to its flowing lines, excellent finish and the quality of its assembly.

Based on Hyundai's Fluidic Sculpture design philosophy, HB20's external details accentuate the modern and sporting lines of the hatchback. Its high waist-line and rear accentuates its stylishness and exclusivity.

The Hyundai HB20's interior also differentiates itself from competitors with its modernity, sophistication, comfort and practicality. The impressive details and high quality of its finish are immediately noticeable, while chrome, metallic and leather-covered parts are options that enhance the model's stylishness even more. In its search to maximize consumer comfort, the HB20 has achieved some of the lowest noise and vibration levels in its class, while the spacious interior will surprise consumers.

Powertrain & Transmission

The Hyundai HB20 comes with three powertrains: 1.0L and 1.6L, with a manual gearbox and 1.6L, with automatic transmission.

The vehicle's 5-speed manual gearbox has precise and perfect shifting, providing comfort and a rapid response. The automatic option has four gears, with smooth changing.

All versions are equipped with a flex-fuel engine. The 1.0L model has three cylinders and gains in power due to reduced friction and better energy efficiency, leading to lower fuel consumption, a reduction in pollutant emissions and lower maintenance costs. It is considered to be 6% more powerful than the segment's average. The 1.6L version has four cylinders and emits 23% more power than the segment's average.

The Hyundai HB20 is equipped with a continuous variable valve timing (CVVT), which optimizes the air-fuel mixture both at low and high RPM, leading to improved performance and fuel consumption.

The HB family will also have sedan and crossover versions that will come to market during 2013. The three models will all be produced at Hyundai's first plant in Brazil. The Piracicaba factory covers 1,390,000 square meters of land, of which 69,000 square meters will consist of facilities. The plant is Hyundai's seventh overseas manufacturing base outside South Korea, after Turkey, India, China, the United States, the Czech Republic and Russia. The company invested a total of US$ 600 million in the facilities.

HMB has already hired 1,600 employees with plans to increase this figure to 2,000 by 2013. Hyundai's Piracicaba plant, together with its suppliers, will create an additional 3,000 jobs. It will also indirectly generate 20,000 jobs in the region.

Langdong, which can be translated as a "dynamic (car) for the young, new generation," is based on Hyundai Motor's best-selling and multi-award winning Elantra that has captured the hearts of customers worldwide. Together with its new third-generation Santa Fe, Hyundai aims to boost its mid- to large-sized vehicle offerings in China and raise its brand image.

"A decade ago, Hyundai was known for making only small cars. Today, our Equus and Genesis (badged as Rohens in China) luxury cars compete with the best vehicles that Europe can make," Seung-Tack Kim, Executive Vice President & COO of Hyundai Motor's Global Business Division, said in Beijing today. "Ten years ago, we were a follower in the auto industry. Today, we are a leader - and ready for the future."

Langdong, which will be produced at Hyundai's new, third plant in Beijing in the second half of 2012, is expected to accelerate the upward momentum for Hyundai in the world's largest auto market. Beijing Hyundai Motor Co. (BHMC), Hyundai's joint venture in China, is currently building a third plant, which will raise its maximum production capacity to one million units.

Hyundai Langdong is based on a design concept called Wind Craft that is part of Hyundai's larger design philosophy of Fluidic Sculpture, which has been applied to the company's entire lineup since 2009. The aggressive front-end design of Langdong, with its wraparound headlights, creates a feeling of motion and strength. The streamlined character line on the side volume sweeps back dramatically toward the rear, giving the entire vehicle the appearance of having been crafted by the wind.

Hyundai Langdong is a compact car with the feel of a larger car. With an overall length of 4,690 mm, width of 1,880 mm, height of 1,680 mm and a wheelbase of 2,700 mm, Langdong is larger than its competitors. This means Langdong provides consumers with the convenience of a compact car but the practicality and comfort of a mid-sized car.

Hyundai's 1.6L and 1.8L MPI engines will be offered on Langdong. The 1.6L engine has a maximum power of 93.8 kW (127.4 PS) and a maximum torque of 155.5N.m (15.9 kg.m). The 1.8L engine has a maximum power of 107.4 kW (146.1 PS) and a maximum torque of 174.6 N.m (17.8 kg.m). Hyundai Langdong also offers excellent fuel economy, beating its rivals with fuel-saving devices that include our 6-speed manual and automatic transmissions and Hyundai's Active ECO driving mode.

Inside, premium features include a navigation system, dual-zone and fully automatic air conditioning; ventilated, fully adjustable power seats with seat heaters, an LCD instrument display and push-button start.

Driver safety is a high priority for Hyundai. Langdong, which has received the highest safety ratings from government agencies in Europe and the U.S., has a series of active and passive safety features including side air bags, an emergency brake reminder and a tire pressure monitoring system, to name a few.

Hyundai will introduce its advanced Blue Link infotainment system to Hyundai Langdong. Blue Link offers a wide variety of features such as safety and maintenance alerts, navigation and remote control, all with minimum driver distraction. Starting from the first half of 2012, Hyundai plans to expand its lineup of cars in China that offer the Blue Link service.

The Hyundai Veloster got off to a solid commercial and critical start in 2011, and while the eccentric hatchback has only been on the market for a few months, it's already found its fair share of friends, outselling competitors like the Honda CR-Z and Scion tC straight away.

We can see why � Veloster offers a unique mix of cut-price mix of funkiness, utility, connectivity and efficiency. However, it's also fair to say that its direct-injected 1.6-liter Gamma four-cylinder skews far more eco than sport. The Veloster's 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque is enough to have fun on curvy roads if you're really willing to stick your foot in it, but its performance is hardly neck snapping.

Given the three-door's sporty styling, some have suggested that there's a bit of a disconnect between the way the Veloster accelerates and the way it looks. Hyundai has apparently heard those barbs, and they've turned to forced induction for the answer. Enter the 2013 Veloster Turbo seen here, which rings up 201 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 194 pound-feet of torque from 1,750 rpm thanks to the addition of a twin-scroll turbo and a unique motor-actuated wastegate. Those power figures put it in the thick of the hunt with pricier performers like the Volkswagen GTI, not to mention the Honda Civic Si and Mini Cooper S, with a better weight-to-power ratio than any of them.

Visually, there will be no mistaking the Veloster Turbo for its normally aspirated kin � the new front end should make sure of that. While the Turbo retains the same headlamps and a similar overall form, Hyundai has replaced the standard car's modest chrome-edged grille slot and lower fascia with a massive hexagonal opening for better breathing and rearview mirror intimidation. The gaping maw extends both above and below the bumper, and it's bookmarked by a new set of foglights.

The profile of the Turbo remains largely unchanged, though there are new 18-inch alloys with flashes of chrome wrapped in Kumho Solus rubber. Out back, the Turbo gains LED taillamps and a pair of large round exhaust outlets that Hyundai promises are attached to a freer-flowing and more vocal exhaust (there's a retuned intake manifold for a throatier sound, too). The pipes are surrounded by a new lower fascia with integrated diffuser and a pair of rather bizarre outboard reflectors. As the standard Veloster's drivetrain is surprisingly quiet, we're hoping that Hyundai has come up with something significantly more vocal for this higher performance model.

The Korean automaker isn't releasing performance figures for the Turbo just yet, but with the standard Veloster routinely ringing up 60 miles per hour in the mid-to-high eight-second timeframe, we're ballparking in the low sevens for the force-fed model. Despite the power bump, Hyundai says that the Turbo should still ring up fuel economy numbers of 27 city and 38 highway with the six-speed manual � figures comfortably ahead of its rivals.

Other changes include a quicker steering rack with meatier feel, although interestingly enough, Hyundai has left the standard car's suspension alone. Inside, there's a new Graphite Black interior with blue trim and special headliner graphics, plus with a new driver information display that relies on two TFT screens in the gauge cluster. Finally, the Turbo comes with standard heated seats with "Turbo" stitching on the backrests.

Interestingly, the Matte Gray paint seen here isn't just a showcar shade � it's Hyundai's first foray into the world of shine-free finishes. It's also the first application of this sort of paint that we can recall at anywhere near this price point.

Speaking of prices, we're not quite sure what the Veloster Turbo's MSRP will be, but the standard 2012 model starts at $18,075 delivered. A fair assumption is that the Turbo's price will start somewhere in the very low 20s when it arrives this summer.

Featuring sophisticated and refined lines, which are in harmony with its bold and voluminous surfaces, New Generation Santa Fe presents a more masculine, more aggressive and more characterful SUV appearance than its predecessor.

Three powertrain options will be available to European buyers, including a new, super-efficient, Euro 6 compliant 2,0-litre 'R' VGT diesel engine. Producing 150ps, this powerplant emits just 155g/km of CO2. The 2,2-litre diesel unit has been tuned for greater efficiency, making it one of the cleanest offerings in the segment with CO2 emissions of only 145 g/km.

To ensure the newcomer is best suited to the tastes of European drivers, extensive development work has been completed for the European-specification model. This includes modifications to the steering, suspension and brakes, as well as changes to the car's set-up to aid to high-speed stability and towing ability.

As with all newly-launched models in Europe, the New Generation Santa Fe will come with Hyundai's industry-best customer care package, Five Year Triple Care - comprising a five-year unlimited warranty, five years of roadside assistance, and five years of vehicle health checks.

Senior Vice President and COO of Hyundai Motor Europe, Allan Rushforth, commented, "The original Santa Fe has maintained strong sales year-on-year across Europe, thanks to its combination of quality, practicality and value. Right now, the Veloster lacks the performance cred to back up its killer looks. But that will change once this 201-hp version hits the streets. The 45 percent boost in horsepower has most folks taking a second look at the Veloster, and hoping this Turbo is a signal that Hyundai is getting as serious about performance as it has been about quality and design over the last few years.

So far, though, signs remain cloudy—the stonking 1.6-liter motor with dual exhaust notwithstanding. Word is the Veloster Turbo gets the same suspension, which is disappointing. The stock Veloster is fun but stiff-kneed and less refined when compared to better-bred sporty cars like VW's GTI—or the Subaru BRZ, which is only somewhat costlier than what we're expecting to see from the Veloster Turbo. Also, ask Mini engineers about controlling torque steer in a 200-hp car with a short wheelbase. That, too, has probably made Hyundai sweat.

Even if the Veloster Turbo isn't perfection out of the gate, we hope it's a sign of better-performing Hyundais (and Kias) to come.

The Hyundai i-oniq is powered by an innovative 1,0-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine generating a maximum of 45 kW (61 ps). This unit is mated to an 80 kW (109 ps) lithium-ion electric motor which is powered by a 55 kW generator, via a single ratio gearbox.

In electric-only mode, i-oniq can travel 120 km (74 miles) and up to 700 km (435 miles) with the assistance on the petrol engine, emitting only 45 g/km of CO2 emissions. The concept can reach a top speed of 145 km/h.
